Tottenham Hotspur icon Graham Roberts has lauded defender Ben Davies on Twitter after Spurs dispatched Real Madrid to book their place in the knockout stages of the Champions League.

Davies, 24, remained on the Wembley pitch from start to finish as Mauricio Pochettino’s Spurs outfit secured a remarkable three points with a 3-1 win against one of the biggest football institutions in the world.

A Dele Alli brace and a Christian Eriksen goal saw off Zinedine Zidane’s men, who only produced a late reply through Cristiano Ronaldo.

Roberts, who also played for Rangers and Chelsea during his career, praised Davies’ attitude on his personal Twitter account as the Wales international continues to shine on the left of Pochettino’s Tottenham system.

Former Swansea defender Davies has kept Danny Rose out of the Tottenham starting line-up for two consecutive matches now since Rose returned from injury, after Pochettino picked Davies over the England international against Manchester United.

His form has been impeccable from left wing-back this season, scoring twice and providing another two assists for Spurs during his 11 league and cup appearances, of which he has helped Spurs keep four clean sheets.

Despite Rose’s recovery, Davies is likely to keep his place once again as Spurs play host to London rivals Crystal Palace on Sunday at Wembley.
