Former Tottenham Hotspur striker Roberto Soldado still holds the club in high regard, wishing them well on a historic day.

The Spaniard send the club a message to say he is proud to have represented the team, with the club celebrating their ‘birthday’.

Soldado was signed by Tottenham Hotspur in 2013 from Valencia and there were high hopes for him to be a success.

Yet for various reasons, some personal, the striker never seized the opportunity and was sold after two seasons to Spanish side Villarreal.

He is currently sidelined with injury, but had a good season back in Spain last season, helping his side reach the Europa League semi-final.

He clearly parted the club on good terms with all at White Hart Lane, and remembers his time positively despite the fact the on pitch results were not quite what he would have wanted.

He was not the only former player to reach out to Spurs on the occasion, with former goalkeeper Heurelho Gomes also wishing them well.

Tottenham have been marking the day on social media by giving brief insights into their history and how the club were formed.
