The Spanish striker never made the impact he would have wanted with Tottenham.

Tottenham Hotspur played their final game at White Hart Lane at the weekend, defeating Manchester United 2-1 in an emotional farewell fixture.

Plenty of the best players to have played for the club at their magnificent home ground were present at the game and paid tribute to the stadium.

But some of the less successful, but still popular ex-Spurs players were also paying their own tributes.

Tottenham signed Spanish striker Roberto Soldado from Valencia for £26 million in 2013, as reported by The Independent. But he struggled at Spurs, scoring just seven league goals for Spurs in two seasons and 16 overall from 76 appearances – the majority of which came from the spot.

However, he worked hard and remains a big Spurs fan, much to the joy of Tottenham fans and shared this message on Instagram this week:

Soldado is now back in Spain and enjoying his time at new club Villarreal. It never quite happened for him in North London but his attitude and work-rate ensured that he remained a popular figure with Tottenham fans, even after he left.

He will just be sad he never lit up the Lane like he would have wanted.
