West Ham United have already signed one player this summer.

West Ham United unveil new signing Roberto Jimenez Gago at The London Stadium on May 31, 2019 in London, England.

Roberto has told West Ham United’s official website that he’s looking forward to playing under Manuel Pellegrini.

West Ham clinched their first signing of the summer transfer window on Friday by unveiling the 33-year-old goalkeeper.

The former Espanyol star has joined the Irons in the same week as long-serving keeper Adrian left.

“I like Manuel Pellegrini’s style of football,” he told the club’s official website. “I like it because every year the goalkeeper takes more importance in the team.

“In modern football, it’s very good news that the coaches decide to involve the goalkeepers in the game and make us feel more inside the game, rather than apart from it or in a different kind of game.

“I am looking forward to this kind of football, so I will try to help a lot.”

Thing is, will he play under the Chilean manager? Probably not a lot.

Lukasz Fabianski had a wonderful first season in East London and, unless something happens to him injury-wise, Roberto won’t play a great deal.

He might get run-outs in League Cup affairs, but there’s a very good chance that he’ll be the former Arsenal star’s understudy all season long.

And given that Fabianski was officially West Ham’s Player of the Year for last season, few would blame Pellegrini if he stuck with him.
