Sheffield Wednesday are hoping to sign Everton duo Darron Gibson and Aiden McGeady.

Roberto Martinez has reiterated to the Liverpool Echo that both Darron Gibson and Aiden McGeady could leave Everton in the January transfer window.

Sheffield Wednesday are reportedly interested in the pair, according to the Sheffield Star, and could lodge a bid in the near future.

And Martinez has offered Wednesday hope that they could land the Everton duo with his comments at his press conference today.

“The conversation is clearly between the players and ourselves,” the Spanish boss said. “There is a sense of trying to help them and that’s why were looking to do something.

“They are both very experienced and should be playing more minutes in the first team. That happens. Sometimes you’re out of favour or you are not participating as much as you want.

“That’s why with the big summer with the Euros ahead we need to take that into consideration. But it goes down to ultimately what the players want to do and see if there is a possibility they are happy to take.

“If not they will be professional and be wanting to help the team and they’ll be available.”

Both McGeady and Gibson have rarely featured for Everton this season, with competition for places at Goodison Park fierce.

Martinez has a squad packed with quality, and he has a number of options in the midfield and wing positions.

McGeady has played just once for Everton this term, while Gibson has featured six times.

If Wednesday do manage to sign the duo it would be a serious signal of their intent, as they chase down a play off spot in the Championship.
