Everton’s Romelu Lukaku with manager Roberto Martinez after being substituted
Former Everton boss and current Belgium manager Roberto Martinez has been singing the praises of striker Romelu Lukaku after his performance against Bosnia-Herzegovina last night.
It was an odd evening for the striker. He scored a fantastic goal, the fourth of the night, to take his record for the season to eight goals in nine games for club and country this season.
But that came after he missed an absolute sitter earlier in the game, which left Belgium fans booing him at the King Baudouin Stadium.

After the game Martinez, who was of course his manager through good and bad times at Goodison Park, had this to say to the press – as quoted by 7sur7:
“I do not measure an attacker based on the goals he scores or misses, but on the opportunities he creates. And in this light, I saw positive things in Lukaku.
“I know him well; I knew seeing the opportunity that he had not scored it would be a point of pride to catch up.”
He also commented on an injury the player picked up – suggesting it was only a small blow to his hip:
“This is not a problem; this should be a matter of 24 hours.”
Everton fans will no doubt be pleased to see that their star striker is certainly showing some good form on international duty, as well as with the club.
Next up is Gibraltar, where he will certainly be hoping to add to his goals tally ahead of returning to Goodison Park.
