Newcastle United are considering a move to make Belgium boss Roberto Martinez their new manager amid his links to Graeme Jones.
That’s according to The Times, who claim that Martinez is one manager being considered to replace Steve Bruce.
Bruce hasn’t actually lost his job yet. He is though expected to leave soon, as he doesn’t fit in Newcastle’s plans after their big takeover.
This could be deja vu for Bruce, as Martinez replaced him as Wigan Athletic boss way back in 2009.
Martinez currently manages Belgium, and guided them to the World Cup semi-finals in 2018. He hasn’t managed to in a trophy with a talented squad though, falling short in the European Championships and Nations League.
The Spaniard could be tempted back to the club game now, and Newcastle are considering a move.
Martinez has links to Newcastle man Jones
If Bruce does go this week, then coach Graeme Jones is expected to take interim charge until a replacement is found.

That would suggest that Jones is still wanted at Newcastle for the long-term, and bringing in Martinez would be ideal for that.
Jones was Martinez’s assistant at Swansea City, Everton and even Belgium.
The pair have a great relationship together and could form a dream duo at St James’ Park.
Martinez plays attractive football and appears to have developed as a coach since leaving Everton, putting himself in contention for this huge job.
