Blackburn Rovers, Leeds United and Sheffield Wednesday have all been linked with moves for Everton outcast Aiden McGeady.

Everton manager Roberto Martinez has told the club’s official website that deals have been agreed with two Championship clubs over a deal for Aiden McGeady.

McGeady, 29, joined Everton from Russian side Spartak Moscow in January 2014, and his first 18 months at Goodison Park saw him hit one goal and seven assists.

However, this season McGeady has been an outcast, and has made just one appearance for the Toffees; and that came in a Capital One Cup tie against Barnsley.

Given that McGeady needs football in order to play for the Republic of Ireland at this summer’s European Championships, a departure has been speculated about for some time – and a move could be on the verge of completion.

The Liverpool Echo recently reported that Blackburn Rovers, Leeds United and Sheffield Wednesday all want to sign McGeady, but also suggested that the former Celtic wide man isn’t overly keen on dropping down to the Championship.

However, speaking after today’s 3-0 FA Cup win over Carlisle United, manager Roberto Martinez admitted to the club’s official website that deals have been agreed with two unnamed Championship clubs ahead of Monday’s transfer deadline.

“It seems very close,” said Martinez. “We’ve agreed terms with two teams in the Championship. It’s just a matter of time before one of the deals is clinched.”

“Aiden needs to play and it’s a really good opportunity for him to do that in a very demanding fixture list for a team that can get a really good tempo into Aiden for the Euros. That will make sure he comes back having had a good period of football and of having an impact for whichever team he joins,” he added.
