Roberto Martinez told Amazon Prime Sport that Everton’s win against Leicester City on Wednesday night was ‘very impressive’, as Alan Shearer echoed his thoughts.

The Belgium coach also added that with Richarlison and James Rodriguez, Everton have a ‘real opportunity’ to reach their targets this season.

After an unbeaten start to the campaign, Carlo Ancelotti’s side suffered a number of mixed results, more towards the negative side, but they have now picked up back-to-back wins.

Those clean sheets have helped massively, as Martinez and Shearer shared their thoughts on the Toffees.

“That’s a very impressive result,” said Martinez. “To go to Leicester, keeping a clean sheet and being able to score I think it’s a great turning point.

“I felt that Richarlison being out of the team due to the injury. I think when James can come back fully fit then Everton have a real good opportunity this season.”

Shearer added: “That’s an impressive result because I did the Leicester-Brighton game the other day and Leicester were really impressive because of the way they played. So, to go there and get that result, Everton, it’s very, very good.”

Whilst it ended in Martinez being sacked, the Spaniard knows what it’s like to walk that Goodison Park touchline and the pressures that come with it.

For many years now, Everton have been trying to reach Europe, but with a man of Ancelotti’s experience, they no doubt have their best chance for a very long time.

Everton have to be patient, and if they are, then European football might not be the only thing that arrives at Goodison Park because they are missing that trophy also.
