Aston Villa boss Roberto Di Matteo has told the club’s official website that a surge in form awaits his troops following an up-and-down season so far.
The Villans were held to a 2-2 draw with Nottingham Forest at Villa Park on Sunday, but they were minutes away from the victory.
Henri Lansbury snatched an 87th-minute equaliser for Forest, whose second-half lead was ruthlessly overturned when Ross McCormack and Rudy Gestede struck in the 72nd and 74th minute to flip the contest on its head.
Aston Villa have won just one of their six Championship games so far, but the Italian boss, a Champions League-winning manager with Chelsea in 2012, believes that Villa – who had 26 shots, compared to the Reds’ four – are on the brink of a purple patch.
Asked if a good run is just around the corner for Aston Villa, Di Matteo responded to the club’s official website: “That’s the feeling. We performed today. We have had games where we have dominated 45 or 60 minutes. But today it was 90 minutes.
“We need to win these games, simple as that. We will keep working on that. But there was good performances today.”
The West Midlands side, who sit 17th in the table, face eighth-placed Brentford on Wednesday night, and a win is quite important for morale.
Di Matteo risks a side low on belief if they fall too far adrift of the automatic playoff spots – and they’re six points behind Newcastle United in second at the moment.
