Jonathan Kodjia has made an impressive start to life at Aston Villa.

Roberto Di Matteo has told Aston Villa’s official website that he is delighted that Jonathan Kodjia is part of his squad.

Kodjia was Villa’s most expensive summer recruit, and he has hit the ground running following his move from Bristol City.

Kodjia has notched once in his first three appearances for Villa, and his performances have caught the eye.

The 26-year-old’s powerful and direct running has added a spark to Villa’s attack.

And Di Matteo said: “He’s settled in very well. He has come in and is very popular within the group.

“He has shown good qualities. He scored a superb goal already. He works very hard for the side – he’s a fantastic team player. We are very pleased he is in our team.”

Villa have a wealth of riches up top, with the likes of Rudy Gestede and Ross McCormack also available for Di Matteo.

However, despite their masses of firepower, Villa have not started the season in encouraging form.

The Claret and Blues have won just once in their first eight Championship matches and currently sit in 18th place.

Villa’s next match comes against high flying Newcastle United on Saturday.
