Aston Villa have a few injuries to be worried about.

Aston Villa's Jack Grealish

Roberto Di Matteo has told Aston Villa’s official website that a hamstring injury kept Jack Grealish sidelined from Wednesday’s 1-1 draw with Brentford, adding that he is yet to determine the severity of Ross McCormack’s problem.

The Villans were denied what would have been a second Championship win last night when John Egan bagged an 88th-minute equaliser.

It was the second time in the space of four days that Aston Villa were minutes away from a win, only to concede a late goal – costing them four points in total.

To make matters worse, now Di Matteo has a few big players with injury worries. The Italian manager reveals that Grealish missed the visit of the Bees with a hamstring issue, while McCormack – who came off at half time – will have to be assessed before the extent of his knee problem can be determined.

Aston Villa's Ross McCormack reacts

“Jack has a problem with his hamstring. He couldn’t make it for the game this evening,” Di Matteo told Aston Villa’s website.

“Ross McCormck got a knock on his knee and we had to take him off at half-time. We will have to assess him.”

The last thing Villa need is two of their best players to miss matches, but when it rains it pours.

Di Matteo’s side badly need to start putting a run of form together. One win in seven Championship games is not good enough – and not when Newcastle, who were also relegated from the Premier League last term, are one point behind top-of-the-table Huddersfield.

It gives the West Midlands outfit very little place to hide.
