Quoted by the Daily Star, Aston Villa manager Roberto di Matteo has claimed that he is still confident they will be in the promotion mix by the end of the season.
The Villans have endured a difficult start to life in the Championship after their relegation last season.
So far they have picked up just eight points and currently sit 18th in the table, just three points above the relegation zone.

It has been a disappointing start, especially for the Villa fans, who were hoping to see their team make an instant return to the Premier League this season. Di Matteo, though, is still confident about their chances of doing just that.
“The ambition for us is to try to get promoted,” he told the Daily Star.
“I am confident after 46 games we will still be in the mix. Naturally, you’re going to look at the three teams who are relegated – you will always put them at the top for a start.”

If Aston Villa are to get promoted this season they are going to need improvement, especially in attack.
So far they have managed just eight goals, the joint fourth lowest in the division, despite the fact they are enjoying the fourth most efforts on goal per game.
That is a poor return especially given the money they spent improving their forward line in the summer and will need to be changed sooner rather than later if they are going to mount the promotion push their manager expects.
