The Italian was sacked by Aston Villa on Monday after just 11 league games.

Sacked Aston Villa manager Roberto di Matteo has claimed he was confident the situation was about to improve in the coming weeks in a statement released by the League Managers Association.
The Villans sacked Di Matteo on Monday after a disastrous start to life in the Championship.
Since taking charge of the club in the summer, the Italian managed a tally of one win, seven draws and two defeats during his 11 league games in charge.
It left the club sitting 19th in the table, just two points outside of the relegation zone, a position that ultimately led to his dismissal.
It was their inability to maintain a lead that really hurt his side, with them becoming the Championship’s draw specialists under his leadership.

Di Matteo, though, believes that was something that was going to change quickly in the coming months. In his statement via the LMA he said:
“My coaching staff and I have worked tirelessly to rebuild the squad and I fully expect the players we have brought in to start delivering results in the weeks and months to come.”
“I have seen enough over the opening games of the season to suggest that the team we have built will start converting draws into wins and climb the table towards the play-off places.”

It will certainly be interesting to see who Aston Villa look to as their next manager.
Despite their struggles, the job is likely to be an attractive one given the quality that is available at Villa Park.
The appointment is a crucial one and one that owner Tony Xia cannot afford to get wrong after Di Matteo’s short and failed reign.
