Aston Villa started without Ross McCormack in their most recent match against Ipswich Town.
Roberto Di Matteo has told Aston Villa’s official site that Ross McCormack could have helped his side, if he was available against Ipswich Town.
McCormack has played eight times for Villa since signing from Fulham in the summer transfer window.
The 30-year-old has shown signs of promise, but he has not scored particularly prolifically since moving to the Midlands club.
McCormack has managed just two goals in his first eight appearances, but Di Matteo felt that Villa missed the Scottish international’s creativity against Ipswich Town.
“I thought every player on the pitch did their job and worked very hard for each other,” Di Matteo said, when asked how badly McCormack was missed. “This is the kind of game that you have to do that.
“We changed the shape a little bit to help. It was the third game in six days. Ross has got some technical ability that can unlock defences sometimes.”
McCormack missed out on playing in the match at Portman Road due to injury.
Villa played a 3-5-2 formation against Ipswich, but they could only pick up a 0-0 draw.
The Claret and Blues started with Jonathan Kodjia and Rudy Gestede up front, in McCormack’s absence.
Villa have still only won once so far this season, and they currently sit in 18th place in the Championship table.
