New West Ham United signing Robert Snodgrass would do well to focus on his football.
West Ham United’s Robert Snodgrass looks dejected
The Hammers were forced to sell wantaway star Dimitri Payet back to Marseille for £25 million in January.
Slaven Bilic brought in Robert Snodgrass from Hull City for £10 million and Jose Fonte from Southampton for £8 million.
Since Payet’s departure the Hammers have been more united and results have improved drastically as a result.
Reports claimed Payet’s brooding attitude was hurting team morale.
And new signing Snodgrass appeared to confirm as much when he told The Sun he was not like ‘selfish’ Payet.
“I’m totally different to Payet because he was playing like an individual towards the end of his time at West Ham and the lads weren’t too happy about that,” Snodgrass told The Sun.
“The rest of the team were coming in every day and working as hard as they possibly could and wanted someone alongside them who was giving everything.
“That is exactly the kind of player I am. As soon as I came through the door they could see that I don’t leave everything in the tank.
West Ham United manager Slaven Bilic was not impressed with Snodgrass against Watford
“That’s the way I have always been and it’s the reason I’ve had good relations with the fans at all my clubs.”
While Snodgrass’s words will resonate with fans who have already seen he is willing to put the hard yards in, he would be mindful to concentrate on his football.
Because based on his dismal performance in the 1-1 draw at Watford on Saturday one thing is for certain he most certainly is nothing like Payet.
Slack passing, a lack of awareness and pace and spurned chances saw Snodgrass dragged off by Bilic midway through the second half.
Dimitri Payet
The Scotland international’s withdrawal saw West Ham get on top of the hosts and eventually find an equaliser.
Many fans are disappointed seeing arguably their best player Cheikhou Kouyate continually played out of position when he should be in the midfield engine room.
And Snodgrass has hardly set the world alight since signing.
While all players need time to settle and adjust, one of the reasons Bilic bought British was to have players who could hit the ground running.
Snodgrass is not a patch on Payet as a player. He may well work harder but should do his talking on the pitch and let others come to the conclusion they are better off with him than the departed Frenchman.
