Former Aston Villa academy graduate Gabby Agbonlahor has retired from football after leaving his boyhood club last summer.
West Ham United winger Robert Snodgrass and ex-Aston Villa midfielder Stan Petrov were a number of players sending their best wishes to Gabby Agbonlahor after he confirmed his retirement.
The 32-year-old announced on his personal Instagram account on Wednesday evening that he had decided to hang up his boots after nearly 15 years in the game.
Agbonlahor, who left Villa Park last summer after his contract run out, has been without a club since being told by the Midlands outfit that his services were no longer required.
Nonetheless, Snodgrass, who played alongside the former England man last season and the unpopular centre-back Richards issued these replies to Agbonlahor following his announcement. Petrov, who played with him in the Premier League, also had his say.
Whilst Agbonlahor’s career finished in the fashion he would not have liked, he did enjoy a number of good years at the club, all during their time in the Premier League.
He was a regular member of the Martin O’Neill team that secured three consecutive top-six finishes, reached the semi-final of the FA Cup, final of the League Cup and participated in Europe.
Over the course of his career, the speedster played 322 matches in England’s top-flight, scoring 73 goals and supplying his teammates with 47 assists along the way [transfermarkt].
It remains to be seen what Agbonlahor does next in his career, with retired players usually dipping into the punditry market or trying to work their way up the coaching ladder.
