Rangers have lured defender Filip Helander to Ibrox.

Ex-Rangers ace Robert Prytz has told The Scottish Sun that he thinks new Gers signing Filip Helander is similar to Virgil van Dijk.

The Gers have been busy in the transfer market this summer, bringing in eight signings so far – but their biggest to date came earlier this month.

Rangers paid out considerable money to sign defender Helander from Bologna, landing the centre back for around £3million according to Steven Gerrard himself.

That’s a major deal for Rangers, and they will be expecting an instant impact from Helander, who has great experience behind him.

He’s played in Serie A, he’s played 10 times for his country, and he’s played in the Champions League for Malmo, whilst also possessing some untapped potential at 26.

Rangers fans caught a first glimpse of Helander on Sunday, as he came on as a substitute in the pre-season draw with Blackburn Rovers at Ibrox, and he’ll be attempting to quickly get up to speed.

Now, former Rangers, Malmo and Sweden midfielder Prytz has offered his view on Helander, and remarkably compared him to Virgil van Dijk.

Prytz feels that Helander has the same ability to build from the back like Van Dijk, but also has the strength and aerial presence which made the Dutchman such a hero at Celtic, long before becoming a star at Liverpool.

“He got moves there as he’s very much a modern-day footballer who likes to build play from the back. He doesn’t just whack it 60 yards up the field,” said Prytz. “He’s more like Virgil van Dijk in the way he wants to pass the ball — but he’s strong and tall enough to dominate if his team is defending,” he added.
