Arsenal legend Robert Pires has told Goal he would like to see the club sign a striker to help Olivier Giroud.

The Gunners have been quiet so far this summer, with Granit Xhaka the only major arrival so far.

They have been on the hunt for a new striker though as Sky Sports reported they retain an interest in Lyon star Alexandre Lacazette.

It is a position that many believe Arsenal need to improve in, especially after watching Olivier Giroud suffer the longest goal drought of his career in the second half of last season.

A new signing would likely arrive as a replacement for the Frenchman, but Pires says he wants to see a forward signed to help Giroud.

“I think the most important thing is to sign one striker for Arsenal,” he told Goal.

“We have a good one like Olivier Giroud, but they need one more to help Giroud, just in case. If he’s injured, you need one more.”

It remains to be seen if Arsene Wenger does go out and secure the striker that his side needs before the end of the transfer window.

It seems unlikely they will be able to at this stage, with clubs sure to be keen to keep hold of their men with such little time to find replacements.

Indeed, it will take big money to secure the kind of player that Arsenal need, and give Wenger’s reluctance to spend, the chances of that forward arriving look slim.
