The young Rangers goalkeeper needs a season out on loan to display his qualities.

If the highly-rated Jak Alnwick is yet to make his debut following a January move from Port Vale, it’s unlikely that teenage shot-stopper Robby McCrorie has much hope of breaking into the Rangers first-team sooner rather than later, the club’s official website reports.

The 19-year-old is well regarded within the walls of Ibrox despite not making a senior appearance but, with Wes Foderingham (above) impressing between the sticks in a series of virtuoso performances, it appears that he has a long way to go before harbouring realistic hopes of making waves in the first-team.

And McCrorie has his heart set on making a temporary move elsewhere in order to boost his future prospects. It certainly hasn’t done his twin brother Ross, enjoying an impressive loan spell at Dunfermline, any harm.

“I’ve sat with the coaching staff – Craig Mulholland and Colin Stewart – and we’ve spoken about that [a loan],” the Scotland Under-19 international told the club’s official website.

“Hopefully by the end of the season they will have plans in place for me to go out on loan for the whole season, and I’m looking forward to that.”

The McCrorie twins both signed two-and-a-half year contract extensions in December and appear to be part of the club’s long-term plans.

And like fellow youth ‘keeper Liam Kelly, who has enjoyed an excellent temporary spell with Livingston, a loan move appears the next logical step for Robby as he aims to make the step up from the academy game.

Nonetheless, Rangers have paid the price for not giving an opportunity to a number of young stars in recent times.

Consequently, defensive duo Luca Gasparotto and Fraser Aird are showing the club what they are missing at Falkirk in the second division while talented midfielder Andy Murdoch continues to impress at Morton.

Therefore, Rangers must keep track of McCrorie’s progress or risk letting another impressive youngster slip through the net.
