Robbin Ruiter has suggested that based on what he has seen since he arrived at Sunderland in the summer, fellow goalkeeper Max Stryjek has an extremely bright future ahead of him, the Shields Gazette reports.

The Black Cats’ goalkeeping department received plenty of attention last season as, despite their struggles in the Premier League, Jordan Pickford earned a huge amount of plaudits for his performances during his breakout campaign.

That formed earned Pickford a move to Everton, leaving new Sunderland boss Simon Grayson with a decision to make, which ultimately resulted in Ruiter arriving from Utrecht and youngster Stryjek heading out on loan with Accrington Stanley.

But Ruiter insisted that his 21-year-old rival has a huge amount of potential and is certainly one to keep an eye on for the future.

Sunderland manager Simon Grayson looks on during the Sky Bet Championship match between Sunderland and Derby County at Stadium of Light on August 4, 2017 in Sunderland, England.

“He is a promising goalkeeper,” he said, as reported by the Shields Gazette.

“He is still very young but has great power and good hands. I haven’t seen him in many games yet so it is hard to comment on that but what I have seen in training he looks a really talented goalkeeper.”

The form of Pickford provided the Black Cats supporters with one of the few positives that they could take from last season, so it is surely fair to assume that having more youngsters who are destined to go far in the game should ensure that there is plenty of optimism around the Stadium of Light currently.

And while Stryjek may fear for his future first-team prospects, he will know that going out on loan and biding his time as he waits for an opportunity at Sunderland will see him head down exactly the same path that Pickford travelled down not too long ago.
