Liverpool managed to salvage a point against Manchester United on Sunday.

Pundit Robbie Savage believes Liverpool’s draw against Manchester United on Sunday was ‘a sign of champions’, also praising Jurgen Klopp for his tactical switches during the game, speaking to BBC Sport (20/10 live match page, 18:24 & 18:26).

The Reds were looking to continue their incredible Premier League winning run at the home of their bitter rivals but found themselves behind in the match during the first half.

The unlikely equalising hero was substitute Adam Lallana, who salvaged a point with an 85th minute strike.

Klopp’s side showed great spirit to come back into the game and continue their undefeated streak, despite not picking up maximum points.

It’s a spirit that Savage thinks makes them stand out as real title contenders.

As quoted by BBC Sport, the former Leicester man said: “That’s a sign of champions. Liverpool haven’t played well but now they have eight wins and a draw from nine games. United were good tactically in the first half and Klopp made changes. The substitutes made a difference.”

The pundit would go on to single Klopp out for praise further, telling the broadcaster: “The first half was very tight. VAR had a huge part to play but both decisions were right.

“Jurgen Klopp changed system to 4-3-2-1. His substitutes had a huge impact. Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain was good and Adam Lallana scored. I think overall 1-1 is fair.”

A good result for Liverpool?

Given the form of the two respective sides, Liverpool supporters had every reason to be confident of victory in this one. However, it was never going to be as easy on the pitch as it looked on paper.

Old Trafford is a venue that Liverpool have struggled in for years.

Ultimately the point is far from a disaster for the Reds, who still hold a six point lead over Manchester City at the top of the table.

It may be a bit of a disappointment for fans hoping for a ruthless performance to pile the pressure on Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, but the truth is both managers are probably content with their teams’ work.

As for the result being the mark of champions as Savage suggests, that’s obviously yet to be determined. However, if Liverpool can continue to turn potential defeats into draws and tricky draws into victories, they won’t be far away from Premier League glory.
