Robbie Savage has backed Newcastle United to secure a transfer for Leicester City star James Maddison over Tottenham Hotspur.
The former Premier League midfielder referenced how Newcastle United have ‘unbelievable’ fans and that is one reason for the goalscoring playmaker to sign.
Added to that, Savage also noted how the Magpies can offer Champions League football to James Maddison, whilst those at Hotspur Way will be free in midweek next season, as he told 606 on BBC Radio 5 Live Sport.

There is no doubt that Maddison will be on the move, the Foxes just can’t keep a man of his talents in England’s second-tier.
It’s just a case of who will win the race for his signature, it has been suggested that Newcastle are leading Tottenham in that race for the ‘intelligent’ England star, with the 2023 summer transfer window set to officially open on Wednesday.
Well, that’s something Savage is clearly backing because when he was asked which club he would sign for if he was Maddison, he explained why it’s Newcastle.
“I would probably go to Newcastle,” said Savage. “52,000 fans. Speaking to people who have played there. Unbelievable atmosphere. Europe and Champions League football.”

Maddison more needed at Tottenham
Whilst Newcastle have talent across the board, goals, defensive strength and a winning formula, the same can’t be said for those in north London.
Tottenham have been crying out for a creative spark in the middle of the park ever since Christian Eriksen departed the club in 2020.
Even to this day, they still haven’t replaced the Denmark star, so that tells you everything about how Spurs are more in need of Maddison’s skill set than Newcastle.
