West Ham United have made an extremely poor start to their season.
Robbie Savage urged the West Ham board to be patient with Manuel Pellegrini, following their woeful start to the Premier League season, when speaking exclusively to the Mirror.
The Hammers have lost their opening four league outings, and sit firmly rooted to the bottom of the Premier League table.
Much was expected of West Ham this season, after Pellegrini brought nine new faces into the club, for around £100 million, but the Chilean’s troops are yet to gel.
Things won’t get any easier for the Hammers over the upcoming weeks and months, with fixtures against Everton, Chelsea, Manchester United and Tottenham all to come in their next five outings.
Savage urged the club’s owners and fans to be patient with Pellegrini, however, when speaking exclusively to the Mirror:
“West Ham’s dire start – the only club in all four divisions without a point – has put new manager Manuel Pellegrini in the spotlight. But it is dispiriting to hear talk of his job being under threat after just four games. Some fans turned on David Gold and David Sullivan last term, but they financed £100m of signings. No one can accuse the co-owners of not backing the new man. Four years ago, the Chilean led Manchester City to the title and must show why he got that job – by bringing some South American fire and brimstone to the party.”
Pellegrini will surely be given more time in his role as West Ham boss, but if he fails to pick up any positive results over the next five games, the pressure really will be piled on the Chilean.
