The pundit has heaped praise on the Arsenal left-back.
Robbie Savage believes Nacho Monreal was the most-improved Premier League player of 2015, according to his regular column in the Daily Mirror.
Indeed, the pundit has heaped praise on the Arsenal left-back, who he thinks has gone some way to filling the void left by Ashley Cole all those years ago.
Monreal was signed by the north London side for £10 million, according to BBC Sport.
And Savage told the Mirror: “Most improved player of the year: Nacho Monreal.
“Arsenal lost Ashley Cole to Chelsea 10 years ago and you could argue they have never found a replacement as good as him but Monreal’s improvement at left-back this season has been striking.”
Savage has done well to recognise the contributions of the Spaniard. He was often criticised in the past and, even during a good spell, he has never been considered a particularly glamorous option or big name.
But the Arsenal left-back certainly improved in 2015. So much so that, when the Gunners have had a bad day, the 29-year-old defender is often the only one to stand up and be counted.
Is Monreal just what Arsenal need when it comes to a title challenge? Arsene Wenger’s side is full of creativity but the Spaniard provides a solid and steady option – one every team needs.
The Gunners host Newcastle United at the Emirates Stadium on Saturday afternoon.
