The striker was left on the bench for Liverpool’s 2-1 win over West Bromwich Albion on Saturday.

Robbie Savage has told BT Sport that Liverpool’s win over West Bromwich Albion proves they are a better team without Daniel Sturridge.

The striker has found himself on the bench this season as Jurgen Klopp has gone with Roberto Firmino as his central striker.

That has proved to be a success, with the Brazilian managing three goals and one assist in eight games so far.

He continued to impress on Saturday afternoon as he was in impressive form in the 2-1 win over Tony Pulis’s Baggies at Anfield.

And Savage believes that result shows the Reds are better off without the England man in their team.

“I think what this win says is I think Liverpool are a better team without Sturridge,” he said during BT Sport’s coverage of the game.

“When Sturridge plays he plays up against the centre-halves and they stay deep. When Firmino plays he drops into the number ten position and the centre back goes with him. That allows the space for Mane or Coutinho to run into.

“Sturridge has undoubted quality but I just think the way Liverpool play, when Sturridge plays it creates a different dynamic for this team.”

Things are certainly looking bleak for Sturridge at Liverpool at present, with the team in fine form without him.

He has not managed a goal since April and has not looked like ending that drought when given his chance this season, most recently in the 0-0 draw with Manchester United.

With the team sitting top of the Premier League without him it is hard to see how he will get back into the team at this moment in time.

In fact, for the sake of his own career, a departure from Anfield may be the best option moving forward.
