The Hammers have only won one of their first seven league games.
Robbie Savage has told BT Sport’s Score goals show that it is nonsense to suggest that West Ham United’s struggles are the result of their move to the London Stadium.
The Hammers have made a desperately poor start to the new season, winning just one and losing five of their first seven Premier League fixtures.
Much of the blame has been attributed to their relocation from their traditional home of Upton Park to the new London Stadium.
However, midfielder-turned-pundit Savage is having none of that excuse, pointing to the club’s poor away form as an indicator that the problems are more than just homesickness.
Savage said on BT Sport: “I watched the performance against Southampton last week and they were dreadful all over the pitch. People weren’t tracking runners, the defence were all over the place.
“People are talking about the stadium. I’ve got to say, yes they’ve got a new stadium, but I’m not having it. They were 4-0 down at West Brom. They’ve been conceding on average two goals a game since March. It can’t be the new stadium.
“Ye they had a good season last season. People are saying the pitch is bigger, the opposition are getting more space. Well, I think Payet would like more space, [and] Lanzini.”
The Hammers fought back to draw 1-1 at home to Middlesbrough on Saturday, and though they have picked up all four of their league points at home, results have undoubtedly not been good enough.
They beat Bournemouth 1-0 in their home opener, but have since lost 4-2 to Watford and 3-0 to Southampton in front of their own fans.
