Mesut Ozil saved the day for Arsenal on Tuesday night with a superb winner.

Arsenal booked their place in the last 16 of the Champions League with a come-from-behind 3-2 win at Ludogorets Razgrad on Tuesday night.

The Gunners trailed 2-0 to early strikes from Jonathan Cafu and Claudiu Keseru, before Granit Xhaka pulled one back for the visitors on the 20-minute mark.

Olivier Giroud, preferred to Alexis Sanchez through the middle, then justified his inclusion by levelling up proceedings before half time with a glancing header.

It remained 2-2 for most of the second half, but in-form Mesut Ozil nicked another win for Arsenal – who beat Ludogorets 6-0 a fortnight ago – with a quite brilliant winner on 88 minutes.

The German latched on to an over-the-top ball to go through one-on-one with the advancing hosts’ goalkeeper. Ozil deftly clipped it over his head, before teasing a couple of recovering defenders en route to tapping into an empty net.

It was a goal which summed up just how confident the 28-year-old playmaker is at the moment, and it had Twitter buzzing with reactions.

It bodes well that Arsenal have their main man in such a rich vein of form ahead of a huge North London derby at the Emirates on Sunday evening.

Arsene Wenger’s side, who sit level with Liverpool and Man City at the top of the Premier League, would go six points clear of Spurs with a win.
