Robbie Savage has predicted that Leeds United’s return to the Premier League will result in a 14th-placed finish next season.
Marcelo Bielsa led the Whites back to the top flight for the first time in 16 years last term.
And with the Leeds boss being a world-renowned coach who has managed Argentina’s national team, Athletic Bilbao and Marseille to name a few, there’s a lot of intrigue over how he will fare in the Premier League in charge of a newly-promoted club.
The Elland Road side have already broken their transfer record with a £30 million deal for Rodrigo last week and, with more big-money moves in the pipeline, there is growing optimism that Bielsa’s troops could enjoy a successful return to the big time.
But although Savage claims that Leeds could finish anywhere between the top six and the bottom three, the former Wales international has told The Mirror that he can see them coming 14th.
He wrote: “Marcelo Bielsa coaching in the Premier League will be one of the most fascinating sub-plots of the season and, as an attacking force, record signing Rodrigo will give Leeds a focal point. I hope they do well, and they could finish anywhere between the top six and the bottom three, but I suspect it will be somewhere in the middle.”
Leeds have an ominous start as Bielsa’s side visit champions Liverpool at Anfield next Saturday.
It’s both a great and terrible way to kick off the campaign. It’s bad because a defeat is extremely likely, but the good news is that the hardest fixture in the entire calendar is taken care of immediately.
