Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur will not finish in the top four of the Premier League this season, says Robbie Savage.

Former Derby County midfielder Robbie Savage has predicted in The Mirror that Tottenham Hotspur will finish outside the top four of the Premier League this season.

Tottenham finished second in the league table last season after ending up third in the standings during the 2015-16 campaign.

Savage believes that Mauricio Pochettino’s side will slip down to sixth in the Premier League this season.

“Mauricio Pochettino’s strongest XI is arguably the best team in the Premier League, but their best chance of winning the title may have gone with those near misses in the last two seasons,” Savage wrote in The Mirror.

“Spurs struggled to settle at Wembley in the Champions League, and now they face playing there every week while the new ground is going up at White Hart Lane. It could even cost them a top-four spot.”

A footnote added: “Verdict: Spurs slipping 6th.”

It is quite a bold prediction from Savage, given that Spurs finished second last season and were Chelsea’s main challengers for the Premier League title.

The North London outfit have lost Kyle Walker to Manchester City, but they still have the likes of Harry Kane, Dele Alli and Christian Eriksen in the team.

True, Chelsea, Manchester United and Manchester City all have strengthened in the summer transfer window, but Spurs’ chances of winning the title cannot be written off just yet.

Savage has also predicted Tottenham’s bitter North London rivals, Arsenal, to miss out on a top-four spot in the Premier League this season.

Arsene Wenger’s side failed to claim a Champions League spot in 2016-17, and the BBC Sport and BT Sport pundit has predicted them to miss out yet again.

“Uncharted territory for Arsene Wenger as he begins a campaign without Champions League football for the first time in 20 years,” Savage wrote in The Mirror.

“Alexandre Lacazette will add firepower, but things could get worse for Wenger before they get better if he loses Alexis Sanchez.

“How on earth was such an influential player allowed to reach the final year of his contract without the club busting a gut to keep him?

“Le Professeur rode out the storm last season but I suspect he is facing another year outside the mainstream.”

A footnote added: “Verdict: No top four return 5th.”
