Pundit says Tottenham’s record in cup competitions has not been good enough.
Critical… Robbie Savage
Robbie Savage has praised Tottenham Hotspur’s Premier League performances but criticised their cup record in 2016/17 as underwhelming.
Savage told BBC Radio 5 Live’s 606 on Sunday night (21/5) that he felt they had been a ‘massive disappointment’ in the cups.
Spurs were eliminated at the group stage in the Champions League, finishing third behind Monaco and Bayer Leverkusen,

They then got knocked out of the Europa League by unfancied Belgian side Gent.
In the FA Cup they reached the semi-final before another Wembley loss, this time to Chelsea, while in the EFL Cup they were beaten by Liverpool at Anfield.
Savage said: “They have been brilliant. They’ve overachieved with the wage structure they have, they are only seven points off Chelsea. But look at Champions League, they were very poor, only won two, then lost to Gent. They lost to Chelsea when they were the better team.
“In the Premier League they’ve been very very good, in other competitions, very poor.
“They have spent money, they’ve been great, absolutely great, brilliant but I was massively disappointed in them in Europe, as it was season before against Dortmund.”
Tottenham’s Dele Alli shoots at goal
It is hard to argue with the assessment that Tottenham’s European record has been poor this past season, but they have earned the chance with their Premier League displays to have another crack at it next season.
While they will be at Wembley once again, the fact they are playing their Premier League home games there next season should help the stadium become a little more familiar and start to add up to a home advantage rather than working against them.
