Robbie Savage ‘can’t believe’ more fans prefer Tottenham Hotspur’s model than Chelsea’s

Tottenham Hotspur and Chelsea are currently sitting in the top four of the Premier League table.

Former Premier League player Robbie Savage has expressed his surprise that more fans favour Tottenham’s long-term model than Chelsea’s.

In a recent BT Sport poll, as posted on their official Twitter account, they shared that from over 30,000 supporters, 65% of them favour Spurs’ way of building for the future than their near London neighbours.

The result of that vote perplexed Savage, who stated that he ‘can’t believe’ more fans prefer Tottenham’s model than lifting silverware.

“I can’t believe that poll vote,” Savage told BT Sport Score. “65% would rather that [Tottenham model] than winning trophies. Surely fans want to see their team win trophies.”

Russian billionaire Roman Abramovic brought Chelsea in 2003 and since then he has spent vast amounts of money in helping the club win numerous Premier League titles and domestic competitions.

As a result, this has helped them buy numerous trophies, including the Champions League in 2012 under Roberto Di Matteo.

In October 2018, Sky Sports pundits Gary Neville and Jamie Carragher passionately debated Tottenham’s business model, with the ex-United defender labelling chairman Daniel Levy as ‘the best operator in football’, as quoted by the Telegraph.

The above report also stated that since Mauricio Pochettino’s arrival in 2014, they have only spent £29 million net on arrivals – this further showcases the stark difference between Tottenham’s model and Chelsea’s.

While the Stamford Bridge club would loan out their youngsters time and time again, under Pochettino, Spurs have brought through the likes of Harry Kane, Harry Winks and Dele Alli, with the latter coming from the lower leagues.

Despite not buying any players during the previous two transfer windows, Pochettino’s side are still sitting in the Premier League’s top four and are in the knockout stages of the Champions League.
