Robbie Savage raved about Leeds United goalkeeper Illan Meslier on BT Sport 1 (2:06pm, September 27, 2020) following the match against Sheffield United.
The former Derby County midfielder, who was covering the Premier League game at Bramall Lane as a pundit for BT Sport, was impressed with the saves that Meslier made in the Yorkshire derby, as the Whites won 1-0.
Former England international goalkeeper David James and ex-Leeds player Darren Huckerby were also impressed with the display produced by the 20-year-old France Under-20 international.
Savage said about Meslier on BT Sport 1 (2:06pm, September 27, 2020): “Seven clean sheets in 10 appearances towards the end of the season which secured Leeds the title.
“His performance today was, I have got to say, one of the best I have seen in a long time of a young goalkeeper, the two world-class saves have allowed Leeds to get that win.”
Huckerby wrote on Twitter: “That’s a f*****g unbelievable save!”
Leeds United number one now
Meslier got his chance for the Leeds first team in the final weeks of last season due to first-choice goalkeeper Kiko Casilla getting banned.
The Frenchman has been superb for the Whites, and it seems that he is now the first choice between the posts.
The youngster looks very confident between the posts and looks calm on the ball, and he does not tend to take too many risks either.
The youngster spent the 2019-20 season on loan at Leeds from Lorient, and the move was made permanent earlier this summer.
