Robbie Savage has analysed Tottenham’s summer transfer activity.

Pundit Robbie Savage has told The Mirror that Tottenham’s summer transfer activity was disappointing, despite three signings on deadline day earlier this week.
Spurs finished third in the Premier League last season after a late collapse, and fans were hoping for considerable improvements to the squad, especially ahead of the club’s Champions League campaign this season.
Tottenham’s Victor Wanyama celebrates
Tottenham snapped up two players ahead of the Premier League season, with powerful midfielder Victor Wanyama arriving from Southampton to reunite with his former manager Mauricio Pochettino, and striker Vincent Janssen joining from AZ Alkmaar after smashing 27 goals in the Eredivisie last season.
It was clear that Tottenham needed more though, and they left it late to snap up three more new signings before Wednesday’s transfer deadline.
Winger Georges-Kevin Nkoudou finally completed a protracted move from Marseille to add some pace out wide, goalkeeper Pau Lopez joined on loan from Espanyol having previously worked under Pochettino with the La Liga side, and the club’s blockbuster move of the summer materialised with minutes to spare as Moussa Sissoko arrived from Newcastle.
Tottenham’s Vincent Janssen
The 27-year-old midfielder struggled as Newcastle suffered relegation to the Championship last season, but his performances for France at the European Championships over the summer triggered major interest in his signature.
As noted by Sky Sports, Tottenham had to fend off interest from Premier League rivals Everton to land the £30m signature of Sissoko, but his arrival hasn’t gone down well with everybody.
Pundit Robbie Savage has spoken to The Mirror about Tottenham’s transfer business this summer, and admitted he would be disappointed if he was a Spurs fan as there was no marquee signing brought in, whilst the deal for Sissoko was also a cause of concern for the former Welsh international.
Moussa Sissoko celebrates scoring for Newcastle United
“Where is that marquee signing? I’d be disappointed,” said Savage. “If you finish third, looking a bit jaded, I’d have expected a huge signing to go into that side to improve it. Sissoko isn’t that player, is he?” he added.
Sissoko actually provides Tottenham with another midfielder who can bring power and drive to the Spurs side when Mousa Dembele is out, whilst the other signings make plenty of sense too.
Loepz gives Pochettino a goalkeeper he already knows and can develop if a permanent deal is secured, Wanyama adds competition for places in midfield, Nkoudou brings pace out wide that Spurs lacked sometimes last season, whilst Janssen looks to be a suitable complement to Kane in attack.
Pochettino’s style of management, centred on energy and player development, works better with youngsters and players he has worked with before – as we’ve seen with his signings this summer – rather than splashing exorbitant amounts of money on big-name signings.
