Former Birmingham City midfielder Robbie Savage has commented on Aston Villa, Leeds United and Derby County in regards to their promotional challenge.

Robbie Savage has admitted that he would like to see the likes of Aston Villa, Leeds United and Derby County in the Premier League rather than current Championship leaders Norwich City.
Daniel Farke’s side recorded a valuable 3-1 win over Leeds [BBC Sport] at Elland Road on Saturday to leapfrog them at the top of the table and boost their chances of finishing in an automatic place at the end of the season.
Nonetheless, Villa fans will be surprised by Savage’s comments because of his afflation with the club’s bitter rivals Birmingham City, who he represented for a number of years during the mid-noughties.
“Let’s be honest,” Savage told BBC 606. “Would I rather see Leeds United, Derby County, Birmingham or Aston Villa than Norwich in the Premier League, yes I would.”
Despite that defeat against Norwich, Leeds are still sitting second in the table, level on points with Norwich, who are ahead of them on goal difference.
As for Villa, they have had an inconsistent season, with manager Dean Smith replacing Steve Bruce in the dugout in October after their play-off final defeat last May.

At this moment in time, Smith’s side are four points outside of the top-six as their chances of securing a playoff place are getting slimmer by the week.
Since the turn of the year, they have picked up only one win as they recorded a goalless draw [BBC Sport] away at relegation-threatened Reading on Saturday.
Now, Smith and his team will turn their attention to next Friday when they host third-placed Sheffield United on home soil, with Chris Wilder’s side hoping to do the double over the Midlands outfit.
