Robbie Nielson has claimed that you ‘can’t see past’ Celtic’s James Forrest for the PFA’s Player of the Year award after he was named on a four-man shortlist.

As reported by BBC Sport, Forrest, along with his Parkhead teammate Callum McGregor was named alongside Ryan Kent and Alfredo Morelos for the main prize.

Speaking to Sportsround on BBC Radio Scotland (01/05/2019), Dundee United manager Neilson was in awe of what Forrest has done this season for his treble-chasing side.

“I don’t think you can see past James Forrest, to be honest with you,” Neilson told Sportsround. “Goals and assists this season, he has been phenomenal for a team that has a good chance of doing the treble.

“I think he has improved season on season and has now added goals and assists to his game. He’s been great.”

Forrest has arguably been Celtic’s most improved player in recent seasons and the appointment of Brendan Rodgers in 2016 played a big part in that.

The talents he had weren’t displayed on the field of play on a regular basis, but as he has proven this season, he has now become one of the club’s most consistent performers.

Over the course of the campaign, he has played 54 games for the Bhoys in all competitions, scoring 17 goals and supplying his teammates with 20 assists [transfermarkt].

Two big games remain for Celtic this month, first the final Old Firm clash of the season at Ibrox in a few weeks time then Neil Lennon’s side will be hoping to beat Hearts in the Scottish Cup final.
