Ex-Tottenham Hotspur striker Robbie Keane will be part of the coaching staff at Middlesbrough next season as they push for promotion to the Premier League.
Robbie Keane has waxed-lyrical about Tottenham Hotspur boss Mauricio Pochettino and shared that he has watched his teams train as he heads into coaching.
The former Spurs striker stated that Pochettino, and his coaching staff, have been a great help during the early part of his coaching career as he backed the Argentine to win a trophy at the club because he is a ‘winner’.
As reported by Sky Sports, Jonathan Woodgate was announced as the new manager of Championship side Middlesbrough with the former defender naming Keane on his coaching staff.
Speaking to Off the Ball’s official YouTube account, Keane was in awe of Pochettino, the respect he has for him and how he is helping him ease into his new role.
“Pochettino has been brilliant, by the way,” Keane told Off the Ball. “He’s been great. The door is always open if I want to go to the training ground and watch the lads train. The assistant manager, Jesus, who I get on very well with, has been brilliant.
“I have been fortunate in that respect that I have those people to call on and if I need to ask questions then they have been great.”
On whether Poch will win trophies at Spurs: “Will he? If he stays. Absolutely. He’s a winner. He’s a winner!”
When Keane finally takes his new role with Boro, it won’t be the first time he will be standing on the sidelines with a backroom staff.
The former striker has been working, and will continue to do it with his Boro role, alongside Mick McCarthy for the Republic of Ireland.
If Keane can take something even relatively small out of Pochettino’s book then he will work wonders wherever he works as a coach.
