Tottenham Hotspur suffered a home defeat to Newcastle United on Sunday afternoon.

Sky Sports pundit Robbie Keane argued with Graeme Souness after Tottenham Hotspur weren’t awarded a penalty during their 1-0 loss to Newcastle United on Sunday afternoon.
In the second half, VAR checked if Newcastle’s Jamaal Lascelles had brought down Harry Kane in the penalty area, with the VAR sticking with Mike Dean’s on-field decision in not awarding a spot-kick.
It was a moment that resulted in heated discussions on the sidelines with Steve Bruce and Mauricio Pochettino, as the Magpies walked away from North London with all three points.
Speaking to Sky Sports Premier League (25/08/2019 at 6:50 pm), Keane was adamant that Spurs should have been awarded a penalty, as Souness disagreed with the former striker.
“Why has he [Kane] gone down, Graeme [Souness],” Keane asked on Sky Sports PL. “I think he [Kane] had already gone down before he [Kane was going to lean on Lascelles].
“I think Harry’s expecting Lascelles to be there [to hold him off] and he’s not there that’s why he’s gone down,” Souness responded to Keane.

“That’s what I am saying, Lascelles was already down [on the floor] before Harry was trying to lean on him,” Keane then argued.
Former Manchester City defender Lescott then argued that if a player isn’t there to lean on then you would go down, as Keane once again came back with his point of the argument.
“Why has Lascelles gone down?” Keane asked. “The only thing I can think of is he got injured, he clearly got injured. But he still went down and still made contact with Harry. So, it’s a penalty.”
Despite that controversial moment, Steve Bruce’s side continued to defend well as they walked away with a deserved three points.
Tottenham were lacklustre throughout as they lacked any cutting edge in the final third or spark in the middle of the park.
Christian Eriksen started from the bench, but even his introduction couldn’t change the course of the game, as Spurs suffered their first defeat of the season.
