Leeds United are fifth in the Championship table so far.

Robbie Keane has told Press Association Sport (via Yorkshire Evening Post) that he feels Garry Monk has done a great job as Leeds United boss so far.

Monk has guided Leeds to fifth in the Championship table in spite of a very ominous start which yielded one league victory from their first six matches.

The 38-year-old, who replaced Steve Evans in the summer, has really united the fanbase again and has supporters believing that a promotion bid is on the cards.

A trip to Wembley could also be in the reckoning as the Whites visit Liverpool tomorrow in a quarter-final League Cup clash at Anfield.

The Reds are second in the Premier League, one point behind Chelsea, and Keane, who played for both, is delighted to see two of his former clubs doing so well in their respective divisions.

“It is great to see both clubs doing very well,” Keane told Press Association Sport, quoted by The Yorkshire Evening Post.

“Leeds hopefully seem to be a bit more stable under Garry Monk, who I think is doing a great job. It is a club that deserves to be in the Premier League with the following they have.”

Monk’s side bounced back from a 2-0 defeat by Championship leaders Newcastle United eight days ago by beating Rotherham United 2-1 on Saturday.

Under the young manager, Leeds certainly seem to have a knack for bouncing back to disappointments in style and Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool will not rest on their laurels.

The Premier League side should win, but it is a cup competition and the Whites – who have won two of their four EFL Cup games on penalties – have shown a certain resillience which will make the English giants a little wary on Tuesday.
