Robbie Keane has claimed that Leeds target and West Ham United’s Manuel Lanzini reminds him of Philippe Coutinho, as he told Sky Sports Football.

The former striker claimed that the West Ham playmaker’s ‘technique’ and ‘low centre of gravity’ is similar to the new Aston Villa hero.

TeamTalk claimed that Lanzini is someone who is on Leeds United’s transfer radar, as Marcelo Bielsa looks to bolster his creative department.

But with Lanzini’s game time increasing of late, including scoring against Leeds in the FA Cup last week, it would be pretty difficult to see West Ham allow him to leave.

Lanzini wasn’t able to help the Hammers see off a resilient and injury-hit Leeds side over the weekend, but that doesn’t hide the fact that he has been in top form of late.

Former Republic of Ireland international Keane was full of praise for the quick-thinking footballer.

“Lanzini, he kind of reminds me of Coutinho with the way he plays,” said Keane.

“In terms of technique, low centre of gravity. Some of the goals he scores are incredible.

“He has really stepped up to the plate. When I say he reminds me of Coutinho, this is what I say (his goal v Palace). Quick feet. Very sharp.”

Initially joining on loan when Slaven Bilic was in charge, Lanzini lit up the east London stage during their days at Upton Park.

That then saw West Ham pay £9 million (Guardian) for his services, although he has had a number of up and down periods when they moved into the London Stadium.

Some would feel he hasn’t been able to relive those early days in Claret and Blue colours, but one thing is for sure, he is starting to show signs once more.

One thing that hasn’t left Lanzini’s footballing locker is his ability to score that spectacular goal, as he showcased against Crystal Palace a number of weeks ago and that quite stunning last-minute equaliser at Tottenham last season.
