Robbie Keane and Jamie Carragher have told Monday Night Football on Sky Sports that they have both been impressed with new Leeds United manager Jesse Marsch. Leeds have gone five games unbeaten under the American.

Joining in March with the club staring at relegation, conceding goals and losing games heavily – Marsch came in. His first two games ended in defeat, losing to Leicester 1-0, and then Aston Villa 3-0. But since, it has been better.

Wins over Norwich City, Watford and Wolves has been accompanied by solid draws against Southampton and Crystal Palace. A very solid 11 points from a possible 15. Leeds held on to a point at Selhurst Park on Monday.

The two sides drew 0-0. Leeds go five clear of Everton and three of Burnley, though the Toffees have a game in hand. Both ex-Leeds ace Keane, and Carragher, both shared how much they have been impressed with Marsch.

Keane: “He speaks very well, he certainly knows the game. I like what he said about Man City, he is going to have a go.” Carragher added: “I really like him. He’s new to the league. Leeds supporters loved the last manager.

“But I’m sure they will take him to heart. Just for us talking to him, the detail he gives you, the clarity, it is lovely for us to get some understanding, some analysis. It is his energy when he speaks. I’ve been really impressed.”

Keane, Carragher on Marsch: Leeds in the best hands possible

Had Bielsa been in charge, Leeds might have scored. But Palace dominated and were much the better side – with Bielsa in charge, Illan Meslier will have conceded three or four. £80k-a-week Marsch has solidified them.

The point sees Leeds remain unbeaten, keeping two clean sheets in their last two games – a rarity for club’s in the bottom five. It gives the Whites hope and optimism as they welcome Manchester City on Saturday.
