Former Liverpool striker Robbie Fowler has told The Sunday Mail (28/10, p63) that he thinks Rangers boss Steven Gerrard may have a decision to make about his future at the end of the season if he can win a trophy this season.

Rangers drew 0-0 at Ibrox with Spartak Moscow on Thursday evening to make it 11 games unbeaten in Europe, with Gerrard certainly impressing in the Europa League.

The Gers are back in domestic action today though, as they travel to Hampden Park to take on Aberdeen in the Scottish League Cup semi-final, with a spot in the final up for grabs.

Rangers have lost just twice in 22 games under Gerrard, with the ex-Liverpool midfielder boasting a remarkable record so early into his managerial career at Ibrox.

Gerrard is picking up fans across the United Kingdom, with many believing that he is well on his way to emerging as a future Liverpool manager once Jurgen Klopp has moved on.

Gerrard must still show more before that can be realistic; trophies, league titles and European runs will be needed for the 38-year-old to land the Anfield job, though he has plenty of time on his side to continue turning Rangers into a force.

Now, former Liverpool and England teammate Fowler has predicted that, if Gerrard wins a trophy this season, he may be forced into a decision about his Rangers future at the end of the campaign, adding that other clubs will want to prise him away from Ibrox having impressed in Europe.

“I had a few doubts about Gerrard going there,” said Fowler. “But if he can win a trophy, expect Stevie to have a decision to make at the end of the season. Especially if he steers his side through to the latter stages of the Europa League. A manager who wins trophies and knows how to do well in Europe? I can think of quite a few really big clubs who would take that CV!” he added.
