Liverpool legend Robbie Fowler has criticised Danny Rose for his latest comments on Tottenham wage structure.
Tottenham Hotspur defender Danny Rose caused a stir in the media and among the fans recently when he spoke about the running of the club.
The England left-back spoke out about Tottenham’s wage structure and transfer policy, and even hinted of moving elsewhere.
Former Liverpool striker and club legend, Robbie Fowler, believes that Rose was “out of order” criticising the club’s pay structure and transfer policy.
He says that Rose certainly has a point and that probably plenty of Tottenham fans and some of the Spurs players will agree with a lot of what he said.
However, Fowler believes that by going public about these issues, Rose has set a bad example of not being a proper team player.
He has also criticised Rose for talking about his contract or suggesting that the club need to pay more in wages.
Fowler says that “maybe they do”, but Rose signed a new contract not long ago, and at that point of time he knew what he was doing.
The former Manchester City player adds that Rose shouldn’t have signed the contract, if he didn’t like it.
Meanwhile, Rose has issued an apology, saying the timing and manner of what he said was ill-judged.
“He was out of order criticizing the club’s pay and transfer policy. Not because Rose didn’t have a point – I’m sure plenty of Spurs fans and some of their players will agree with a lot of what he said,” wrote Fowler in his column for the Sunday Mirror (printed edition; press reader).
“But you can’t say stuff like that about any of your team-mates, because you’ve got to go in the dressing room and look them in the eye.
“I don’t really get him talking about his contract either, or suggesting the club need to pay more in wages.
“Again, maybe they do. But the lad was happy to sign his contract not so long ago, and he knew what he was doing. If he didn’t like it, he shouldn’t have signed it.”
