Rob McElhenney has now hinted that he will make an attempt to lure Gareth Bale to Wrexham this summer.
The 46-year-old and Ryan Reynolds are presumably still celebrating after guiding Wrexham back into the English Football League, with the Welsh side playing outside of England’s top four divisions since 2008 until now.
McElhenney and Reynolds have already convinced a Premier League icon in Ben Foster to join Wrexham, and now, one of football’s greatest ever players could arrive at the Racecourse Ground.
Gareth Bale to Wrexham
Well, McElhenney posted his hint when Bale sent him a congratulatory message after Wrexham won the National League on Saturday.
The Philadelphian wrote: “Hey @GarethBale11 let’s play golf, where I totally won’t spend 4 hours trying to convince you to un-retire for one last magical season.”
It isn’t really much of a hint – judging by McElhenney’s humour, he will almost definitely spend the entire round trying to convince Bale to join Wrexham.
If it happened, it would immediately go down as one of the most remarkable things we’ve seen in football.
Bale is a five-time Champions League winner with 186 career goals to his name, 106 of those coming for Real Madrid as he cemented himself amongst legends of the game.
The 33-year-old announced his retirement from football in January after leaving LAFC.
However, Foster was retired, and Wrexham still managed to convince the England international to join – therefore, anything is possible.

If Bale does end up playing for Wrexham in League Two next season, it would be pretty special – we, for one, would absolutely love to see it happen. He would immediately go down as the greatest to ever play at that level.
Hopefully, the Welshman takes McElhenney up on his offer to play a round of golf, as that could be the start of what would be one of the most sensational transfers in football history.
