From starring for Leeds United to making tea at Chelsea, Rob Green has taken a less intense role.
Rob Green has been opening up about his spell at Chelsea.
Green is third choice behind Kepa Arrizzabalaga and Willy Caballero and stands little chance of playing. He has told BBC Sport he doesn’t mind this.
Just two seasons ago Green was fighting for promotion as a Leeds United starter, narrowly missing out on the play-offs.
He said: “I go to all of the meetings, do all of the pre-match, do the warm-up and help in every way you can, whether it is collecting balls, saving shots or crossing balls in,” he says.
“Then, when the players are ready to come out on to the pitch, you are getting changed and more often than not at away games I find a cup of tea and go and sit in the stand.”
Green’s comments are sad in a sense, given that he is capable of so much more.
Leeds wrongly decided to move on from him, choosing to sign Felix Wiedwald instead.
The Whites then terminated his contract out of fairness, and he joined Huddersfield as a free agent.
This was the wrong move, with Green transitioning into a late career stage as a back up.
He played 46 games for Leeds in the 2016/17 season.
At Huddersfield and Chelsea he has played a total of zero games. Green says he is happy, it just seems a waste.
