Newcastle United stopper Rob Elliot has fallen out of favour at St. James’ Park.

According to the Chronicle, Rob Elliot could choose to stick around at Newcastle United, but he would be making an error by doing so.

Elliot is reportedly tempted to try and outlast Rafael Benitez at St. James’ Park, in the hope that Newcastle’s next manager will give him an opportunity.

The experienced stopper appears to be third choice at Newcastle right now, but Benitez may well leave at the end of the season.

However, it is very tough to see how Elliot will play first-team football at Newcastle again, even with a change of management.

The Magpies have brought in Martin Dubravka, who is one of the finest stoppers in the Premier League.

Dubravka rarely makes errors, and has been one of Newcastle’s most consistent players so far this campaign.

Even if Newcastle were to swap managers it would be very tough to see Dubravka getting dropped.

And if Elliot does have the opportunity to move elsewhere this month, he should take it, as it would surely give him a far greater chance of playing first-team football.
