Rob Elliot has told the Shields Gazette that Newcastle United’s players immediately were discussing how they could improve, following their latest defeat to Arsenal.

Newcastle were beaten 1-0 by the Gunners at the Emirates Stadium in their last outing, with their poor form continuing.

The Magpies actually put in an improved performance during the contest, but were unable to get any rewards for their efforts.

And Elliot feels that Newcastle can take some heart from the fact that their players are genuinely concerned by their poor results.

“Just being around the dressing room, the lads are speaking about the game straight after it, trying to work out what we can and can’t do better,” Elliot said.

“We’re talking to each other all the time. If people criticise each other, it’s not personal, it’s because they care.

“That’s the one thing we’ve got here. I think everyone accepts that, they know we’ve got a fantastic squad who want to give everything they can and obviously want to play for Newcastle and give everything on the pitch.”

Newcastle have now failed to win any of their last nine Premier League matches, with concerns rising about Rafael Benitez’s squad.

Newcastle have slipped into the relegation zone, with frustrations rising around St. James’ Park.

Benitez’s side’s chances of staying in the top flight are likely to depend on whether they can bring in quality during the January transfer window.

Newcastle are next in action on Saturday, when they take on a fast improving West Ham United at the London Stadium.
