Newcastle United manager Rafael Benitez recently dropped Rob Elliot.

Elliot was dropped for Newcastle’s Premier League games against Chelsea, Leicester City and Everton.
Karl Darlow replaced the 31-year-old in the Magpies’ starting lineup for those fixtures, but the Republic of Ireland international was recalled for last weekend’s league game against Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium in North London.

Elliot has admitted that he was not happy with manager Benitez to drop him from the team.
“It’s hard for anyone when you come out of the team,” Elliot told The Shields Gazette. “Goalkeepers are slightly different.
“The manager made his decision. I obviously wasn’t very happy about it, but you just have to get on with it – to support Karl, to support the lads and work hard in training.”

Newcastle will return to action on Saturday afternoon when they take on West Ham United away from home at the London Stadium in the Premier League.
Elliot will hope to retain his place in the team, with the Magpies aiming to return to winning ways.
Benitez’s side are in real danger of getting relegated to the Championship, and it is important that they pick up some points during the festive period.
Elliot has been on the books of Newcastle since the summer of 2011 when Alan Pardew – who is now in charge of West Bromwich Albion – was in charge of the Magpies.
