Liverpool’s Alberto Moreno was mightily impressive before his injury but Robertson has arguably outshone him since then.

Alberto Moreno, 25, got off to a flyer at the start of the season and finally looked to be developing into the left-back that Liverpool fans were looking for.

The Spaniard has drawn a fair amount of criticism for his performances in a Reds shirt in the past, with his defensive displays being unacceptably poor on plenty of occasions.

Last season right-footed central midfielder James Milner, 32, was often preferred at left-back to Moreno, a fairly insulting move by Jurgen Klopp, albeit probably warranted.

This led to Moreno being linked with a move away from Anfield as the 25-year-old almost joined Napoli. However, with the deal falling through, the left-back earned himself another chance ahead of this season.

Moreno enjoyed arguably the form of his career before picking up an injury against Spartak Moscow in December and had begun to make the left-back berth his own.

Since that injury, however, a new man has claimed that shirt and, with Moreno now back fit, Klopp has a real predicament on his hands.

Andrew Robertson, 23, has grown to become somewhat of a fan favourite with his recent performances.

The young Scot had experienced limited chances before Moreno’s injury, however, he has started nearly every game for the Reds since and has gone from strength to strength.

Robertson has been a catalyst for Liverpool’s strong form and his efforts up and down the left flank has been second to none.

Offering as much in attack as he has in defence, the Scotland international has drawn serious praise from the Anfield faithful and pundits alike and has well and truly made the most of his opportunity while Moreno has been side-lined.

Both Liverpool’s losses this season have come in games when Robertson has not played and the team in fact have scored more goals and conceded less when the youngster has started.

An £8million (BBC) summer arrival from Hull City, he could well be the bargain of the season if he can continue his form.

It will be interesting to see whether Klopp decides to hand Moreno a chance now he is fit, although hampering the development and form of Robertson may discourage the German from doing so.

The Spaniard may be waiting a while before he gets his chance again, with Robertson having emerged as one of the key members of Liverpool’s starting XI.
