Celtic’s on loan PSG striker Odsonne Edouard has enjoyed a fine spell at Parkhead.
Last weekend saw Celtic youngster Odsonne Edouard come off the bench to change the game against Morton, spurring on a victory and bagging a goal for himself along the way.
The Frenchman arrived in Glasgow on loan from PSG in late August on a season-long deal and has been chipping away at the first-team for more minutes on the pitch.
At various points in the season he has been handed his chances, especially since the injury to Leigh Griffiths which left the club with only two fit strikers.
With seven goals so far, and a number of notable performances including a first career hat-trick, surely the 20-year-old has done enough to warrant a new deal.
Realistically for Edouard, PSG is a tough cookie to crack and, with Edinson Cavani, Neymar and Kylian Mbappe as his competition for a place in the front three, he looks even more unlikely to break into the French team than Patrick Roberts does with the Manchester City side.
Nevertheless, the former Toulouse man has proved his worth in Glasgow and Rodgers will likely attempt to broker a new deal come the end of the season, whether that be permanently or a second loan.
Fans will be interested to here that Edouard is actually only one goal behind Moussa Dembele in the league this season, having netted five compared to Dembele’s six. The factor of game time has to be taken into account, too, with Dembele enjoying more minutes on the pitch compared to Edouard, who often starts on the bench.
Rodgers clearly has taken a like to the youngster, and his addition to next season’s squad would no doubt be a welcome one but, as long as he remains a PSG player, the Parisians hold the power over his bright future.
